The Night You Left Coasters

Coasters

Inspired by his series of oil on mirror paintings entitled The Night You Left, Hod bottles the recurring themes of introspection and longing contemplated in this body of work into a functional object: a set of four mirrored coasters, lined with digitally printed white powder. Decadent and eye-catching, the coasters are backed with black velvet and are housed in a sleek black box.

The Night You Left masterfully captures a heightened and ephemeral emotional state; a moment of solitude and self-revelation. It is a meditation on love and love lost, on pain and catharsis. “There is a certain magic in loneliness,” Hod explains, “you have to be alone to create,” adding, “It’s not about drugs or glamour—it’s about the inside world, where you can dream and love and seek a greater truth—it’s about a feeling of being connected to something so human.”

I Want Always To Be Remembered In Your Heart

I Want Always To Be Remembered in Your Heart, 2014 Pair of scented candles Edition of 500

Want Always To Be Remembered in Your Heart is Nir Hod’s latest edition. Inspired by his series of paintings of flowers engulfed in flames, the edition explores the paradoxical relationship between beauty and destruction. The pair of candles is an edition of 500 and consists of two carefully selected fragrances, one with a deep masculine scent and one with a brighter feminine scent featuring notes of grey amber, soft leather, and mellow musk. The two candles are intended to be burned together, allowing the fragrances to play off one another. “For me the idea of the strongest light in the darkest places has a mystical fragility, romanticism and beauty to it,” Hod says.

Genius

Nir Hod
Genius Nicolai, 2013
Chrome-plated resin
11 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches
29.21 x 19.05 cm
Edition of 7

PK SHOP is pleased to introduce an exclusive new edition by Nir Hod. Inspired by the artist’s Genius series of paintings of precocious and portentous children, the 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 chrome-plated sculpture is produced in editions of seven in four bold colors: gold, pink, and two additional colors that will be announced at a later date. A meditation on beauty and loneliness, Hod’s poised and alluring young geniuses dwell in a world of paradox, where their cherubic cheeks contrast with their scornful expressions and lit cigarettes.  Philosopher Roy Brand describes them as “…little demons without disguises. But they are also yearning, beautiful, and charming, and their narcissism is more a sign of internal happiness than of vanity.”
Entitled ‘Nicolai’, the series accentuates the vulnerability of these child prodigies by pairing the knowing expressions and eerie self-possession of the painted geniuses with the sculpture’s three-dimensional diminutive body.  Referencing the seductiveness of luxury materials, Hod implements chrome for the first time with this series. The shiny high-polish of the chrome is transformative; the cutting edge medium transforms the traditionally-rendered sculpture into an object of the modern world. The mirrored surface of the work appeals to the viewer’s inner narcissist, while the rich colors reflect the vivid imagery of contemporary life.
